Flags on campus at half-staff for Gov. Leader, Peace Officers Memorial Day05/15/2013
U.S. and Pennsylvania flags are flying at half-staff on the Edinboro University campus and throughout the state on Wednesday, May 15, to recognize National Peace Officers Memorial Day and through sunset on Thursday, May 16, in memory of former Gov. George M. Leader, who died May 9.
Gov. Tom Corbett, directed the memorial observances at Commonwealth facilities statewide.
Peace Officers Memorial Day was created by Congress to honor the memory of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty. Private residences and businesses are also encouraged to flay flags at half-staff on that day.
On this day, we pay tribute to the local, state and federal law enforcement officers who provide a vital public service and play an essential role in safeguarding the rights and freedoms of our citizens. We honor them for their character, leadership and courage.
All Pennsylvanians are authorized to join in these tributes.
