EDINBORO, Pa. – Jeffrey Hileman, a longtime journalist in Erie and other Pennsylvania cities, recently joined Edinboro University’s Communications and Marketing Department as Director for University Communications.

Hileman comes to Edinboro after 24 years as an editor and writer with the Erie Times-News. As online editor, his most recent position, he was directly responsible for all content on the GoErie.com website, helping to lead the newspaper’s transition into new platforms for the delivery of news and information.

“We are thrilled to have Jeff lead our Communications team,” said Tina Mengine, Vice President for Advancement, Communications and Marketing. “He brings a unique blend of talent, judgment and skill to the department.”

Mengine said Hileman will be responsible for all media relations, public relations and internal/external communications.

In addition to extensive experience in writing and editing, Hileman has held leadership roles in planning, social media strategy, special projects and a program of continual website improvement, including two full website redesigns with the Erie newspaper.

He is a graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania, having earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism. Previously, he worked at newspapers in Greensburg and Indiana, Pa., and in the Maryland suburbs of Washington, D.C.

“As a resident of the local community, I’ve long admired the work of the students, faculty and staff of Edinboro University,” he said. “Increasing regional and national awareness of the excellent people and programs here is a challenge I’m very excited about.”

Hileman describes himself as an “adventuresome cook, competitive equestrian and dabbler in a variety of outdoor activities.”

He has been involved in a number of community events, including serving as a judge for the Erie School District’s Academic Sports League competition over the years.
