Each semester since fall of 2009, the Edinboro University Art Department has hosted a Faculty Scholarship Lecture Series event that includes presentations from two selected Edinboro professors. The series continues Thursday, March 1 with “Digital Transitions and Strategies in Fine Arts and Education”.

Beginning at 7:30 p.m. in Edinboro’s Doucette Hall, Room 119, Dr. Penelope Orr and Professor John Bavaro, will present their research during two 20 minute presentations showcasing the varied work undertaken by Edinboro art faculty.

Dr. Orr, assistant professor in Art Education, is also a registered and board certified art therapist and art therapy certified supervisor. She provides services in art therapy to students in alternative school settings and through her private practice. She is also co-author of the 2008 book, “Art Education in a Climate of Reform: The Need for Measurable Goals in Art Instruction”.

Bavaro, an Associate Professor of Art, has been influenced by artists that include Velazquez, Rembrandt and Gainsborough. Aside from his traditional paintings, Bavaro has been creating artwork with Apple iPhone and iPad technology, using various art applications, especially the Brushes application. His work has appeared in New American Paintings, Dialogue-Voicing the Arts, The Artist’s Magazine and two recent national iPhone art catalogues.

Past presentations have included metal smith Sue Amendolara, social sculptor Lisa Austin, graphic designer Shelle Barron, painter Rachael Burke, animator Brad Pattullo, ceramicist Lee Rexrode, photographer Fred Scruton and printmaker Franz Phohn.

Art faculty are invited  to make presentations each year by Art Department Chair James Parlin. The event is free and open to the public.
