Edinboro University’s highly-lauded online master’s degree program in early childhood education is the best in the nation, according to Top Education Degrees, an online source of information for prospective undergraduate and graduate students seeking a superior-quality education degree that aligns with their career goals.
Top Education Degrees compiled its 20 Best Online Master’s in Early Childhood Education 2017-2018 list based on tuition, relevancy of curriculum to the current demands of the profession, previous national recognitions and student-to-faculty ratio.
“We have streamlined the program, improved the advising process and updated many of the courses to ensure our master’s degree students are meeting the highest standards in the field,” said Dr. Karen Lindeman, Master of Education in Early Childhood Education program head. “Besides high-quality course work and content, we are devoted to ensuring student success.”
EU’s 30-credit online M.Ed. in early childhood education prepares pre-service and practicing teachers to work with children ranging from birth to grade three through a curriculum based on research and best practices. Designed to be completed by students in less than two years of part-time study, the program is offered online with a one-week summer residency on campus. Students in the program may also pursue early childhood certification.
The top ranking is the latest of numerous recognitions that Edinboro University has received for academic excellence and value.
In addition to these distinctions, EU’s Master of Education in Early Childhood Education is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children and is approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
Lindeman said the rankings reflect the commitment of Edinboro’s faculty, administration and staff to meeting and exceeding the needs of graduate students as they seek to advance their careers and expand their skills, typically while also actively working as educators.
“We are a great team at EU, and we all deserve to celebrate this fantastic accomplishment,” she said. “It is an honor to be ranked among so many excellent programs.”
Since its founding in 1857 as the Edinboro Academy, a private training school for Pennsylvania teachers, Edinboro University has been at the forefront of teacher preparation.
