          Edinboro alumnus named associate dean of EU’s College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences

          Dr. R. James Wertz, an Edinboro University alumnus (’02) and faculty member since 2005, has been named the associate dean of EU’s College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences.

          Wertz, who most recently served as an associate professor of journalism and digital media and the director of the Edinboro University Honors Program, will assist with course, schedule and program development, promote recruitment initiatives and act as the primary link between the arts, humanities and social science programs and the Dean’s office.

          Wertz serves on the Board of Governors for the Erie Philharmonic, the Advisory Board for Ignite Erie and formerly served on the Board of Directors for the Film Society of Northwestern Pennsylvania.

          Dr. Wertz is the author of numerous academic publications and presentations on topics including journalism and economic development, and he is a regular contributor to the media industry and non-profit sector throughout the Erie area. Since 2014, he has served as a contributing editor for the Erie Reader.

          Wertz earned two bachelor’s degrees from Edinboro University – in Speech Communication and History – in 2002. He then earned a Master of Arts in History from American University and a Ph.D. in Communications Media and Instructional Technology from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
