Edinboro University to celebrate reopening of Van Houten Marketplace

          January 19, 2018

Just in time for the start of the spring semester, Edinboro University will unveil an exciting new dining experience at the freshly renovated Van Houten Marketplace.

An official ribbon cutting and Grand Re-Opening Celebration is scheduled for Monday, beginning at 12:30 p.m. in Van Houten Dining Hall, 345 Scotland Road on EU’s main campus. University officials and student ambassadors will participate in the ceremony.

“These enhancements demonstrate Edinboro University’s commitment to a quality student experience,” said EU President H. Fred Walker. “The goal of the redesign was to create an atmosphere that fosters student connectedness and collaborative growth.”

The $900,000 project featured cosmetic improvements to the 345-seat facility, including fresh flooring, new furniture, the addition of a media lounge and a dedicated quiet area, as well as space to showcase student-produced art.

Chartwells, Edinboro University’s on-campus dining service provider, has also updated its menu options and services, including the introduction of gluten-free stations, expanded vegetarian options, Caribou Coffee and innovative actions stations serving made-to-order dishes. With a focus on healthy options, Chartwells will continue to offer locally-sourced produce and use herbs harvested from EU’s campus garden.

“The improvements to Van Houten are among the University’s ongoing plans to help each and every student continue to learn and grow,” said Dr. Michael Hannan, EU’s Provost and Vice President for Academic & Student Affairs. “A number of individuals have worked extremely hard over the past five months to transform the space into an area that is appealing to students and well-suited to meeting their needs.”

In addition to the ribbon-cutting ceremony, several fun events are planned throughout the week, including exciting giveaways, comedy acts, a chocolate extravaganza and dinner and a movie on the newly installed 75-inch television.

Open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m., and weekends from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m., Van Houten Dining Hall is an all-you-care-to-eat residential dining facility located in the center of EU’s 585-acre campus.
