Edinboro University seeks entries for annual high school journalism competition

          February 12, 2018

Edinboro University is seeking entries for its 12th annual Northwestern Pennsylvania High School Journalism Day competition.

The competition is designed to recognize journalistic talent among high school sophomores, juniors and seniors. It is open to all students currently in grades 10-12, who have an interest in journalism.

Cash prizes, provided by the Meadville Tribune, YourErie.com, JET-TV and FOX 66, will be awarded to the top three finishers in each category. One “Best in Show” winner will be eligible for a $1,000 scholarship to Edinboro University.

All winners will be invited to an awards luncheon on April 5 that will be held as part of Edinboro University’s High School Journalism Day. Entries will be evaluated by a panel of judges that includes faculty from the Department of Communication, Journalism and Media and student leaders from the department’s campus media organizations.

Students are invited to compete in four print journalism categories (news, feature, sports and opinion), one web publication category, three photo journalism categories (news, sports and feature), and three broadcast journalism categories (broadcast news package, newscast anchor and podcast/vodcast). Entries must be received by March 5.

Entry forms and competition guidelines are available on the Events section of the Department of Communication, Journalism & Media website, www.edinboro.edu/cjm. Questions can be directed to Dr. Ron Raymond by emailing rraymond@edinboro.edu or calling (814)732-1317.
