Edinboro University students are invited to attend an upcoming concert from the Erie Philharmonic for free with their student ID. On March 10 at 8 p.m., musicians will perform “The Brilliance of Beethoven” at the Warner Theatre, located at 811 State Street in Erie.
Featuring Daniel Meyer as the Erie Phil’s conductor, the concert will take you through two brilliant contributions to the piano literature from Beethoven: Concerto No. 4 and the Choral Fantasy. Beloved local piano virtuoso Alec Chien takes the solo spotlight in both works. The Fourth Concerto marks the heroic nature of his style, perfectly contrasting an introspective and expressive voice. The Choral Fantasy features a full chorus and six soloists along with solo piano and foreshadows the transformational 9th Symphony. Between these two works, the musicians will perform Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms with rich melodies and catchy rhythms, all in the service of the evocative prayer-poetry of King David from the Book of Psalms.
This concert features a cast of hundreds, including the Erie Philharmonic Chorus and the Allegheny College Choir. Soloists include: Lydia Andraso (soprano), Margaret Andraso (soprano), Kate Thiem (soprano), Lisa Layman (alto), Brent Weber (tenor), Will Steadman (tenor) and John Myers (bass).
