Edinboro Scottish Arts Summer Camp

On July 22 - 28 Edinboro University will hold its first Scottish Arts Summer Camp. Students of all ages and ability levels are welcome to join an excellent staff of instructors for a week of bagpiping and Scottish snare drumming. No prior experience is necessary. Concert Band of Northwest Pennsylvania

On Thursday, July 5, at 7:00 p.m., the Concert Band of Northwest Pennsylvania under the direction of John Fleming will present “A Concert to Honor America." Two local composers will be represented including Dr. William P. Alexander with movements from “From the Sacred Harp” suite which uses tunes found in the shape note songbook of 1844; and J. B. Salter will narrate “Gettysburg” by Dr. Lee Williams. This setting is of Abraham Lincoln’s address at the dedication of the National Cemetery at Gettysburg in 1863. The work is dedicated to the Band’s late announcer, Edward Allen Johnson. The concert also includes works by Jerome Kern and Richard Rodgers along with marches by Chambers, Richards, King and others. The concert is free and open to the public. Those attending are requested to bring lawn chairs or blankets for seating. The band is sponsored by Edinboro's Department of Music.

Venus Transit: Coming to a sky near you!

On June 5, 2012, residents of northwest Pennsylvania will have the opportunity to witness an astronomical event that will not occur again for 105 years! Venus will cross in front of the disc of the sun on June 5. Join Presque Isle State Park, Edinboro University Planetarium and Erie Planetarium as we share this stellar event. In addition, at 4:00 p.m. in room 112 of the Tom Ridge Environmental Center, Dr. David Hurd, Planetarium Director, Edinboro University, will detail the Venus Transit and will be introducing a guest speaker from England - Dr. Halley - who will share with us the historical significance of a Venus Transit. After the lecture, participants can drive out to Beach 7 to witness this significant event. The presentation is free and open to the public. Piano Prelude! Introductory Piano Experiences for Young Children

Five half-hour group classes, one each week on Thursdays - July 19 through August 16.

Piano instruction is for ages 4 1/2 through 7. Class size is 3 - 4 children plus a parent from each family, per class section. Class time is from 11:00 - 11:30 a.m. - with other times scheduled if enrollment permits.  Cost is $60 plus materials. Book Discussion Group

On Tuesday, May 22, Edinboro University's Book Discussion Group will meet in Baron-Forness Library, room 715 at 6:45 p.m. The discussion will be on Evelyn Waugh's novel A Handful of Dust. Copies of the book are on reserve in the library. This will be the last meeting for the group until August. All are welcome to join.

Summer of Creativity

Why not enjoy the summer with one of Edinboro University’s creativity workshops?  Classes this summer include:  Writing the Personal Essay, Introduction to Writing Short Fiction, a Reader’s Theatre Workshop, and Introduction to Sound Installation Art.  All classes are non-credit and are taught by Edinboro University faculty.  For more information on each program, visit us at www.edinboro.edu   Keyword:  Continuing Education.  For additional information, contact Beth A. Concert Band of Northwest Pennsylvania Concert

On Wednesday, June 20, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m., the Concert Band of Northwest Pennsylvania will play the first concert of its 2012 summer season in front of the Cole Auditorium. The theme of the concert will be "An Evening Down Under: Music of Australia and New Zealand." Among the composers represented will be Percy Grainger and John Philip Sousa. Those attending are requested to bring lawn chairs or blankets for seating. The concert is free and no reservations are requred. The band is sponsored by Edinboro's Department of Music.

Edinboro University Planetarium Spring Schedule

The Edinboro University Planetarium presents “Legends of the Night Sky” and “The Venus Transit” as part of 2012 spring schedule. “Legends of the Night Sky” will be presented on Thursday, March 1, and Tuesday, April 10. “The Venus Transit” will be presented on Tuesday, April 24, and Tuesday, May 22. All shows begin at 7:00 p.m. in the University Planetarium and are free and open to the public. Reservations are required, as seating is limited. Dr. Julie Wollman Named Edinboro University of Pennsylvania's 17th President by PASSHE Board of Governors

Harrisburg – Dr. Julie E. Wollman, vice president for academic affairs at Wheelock College in Boston, Mass., was selected today by the Board of Governors of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) to serve as the next president of Edinboro University of Pennsylvania.  Click here for more information.

State Employee Assistance Program (SEAP) - The current SEAP article is available online at this link, choose "Monthly SEAP Article (SEAP Newsletter)." EUP Alumni Association Partners with Harris Connect to Produce Alumni Today Publication

Edinboro University Alumni Association has partnered with Harris Connect to update contact information for all Alumni around the world so that they can keep up-to-date on news and activities from campus. Harris will also produce a hardcover publication that will allow Alumni to find their old school friends and be used for personal and professional networking. 

Over the next few months, alumni will be contacted - by phone, email and mail, to verify and update their contact and career information.     Details

The Old South Summer Road Course 2012

On June 8-29, Edinboro University professors will be taking a group of students on a tour of the south as part of History of the Old South (HIST 482/682). The tour will go through Charlottesville, VA, Richmond, VA, Williamsburg, VA, Charleston, SC, St. Augustine, FL, New Orleans, Natchitoches, LA, Vicksburg, MS, and Nashville, TN. The cost for the trip is $1,300 plus tuition and fees.   details

Purple Thistle Award

The Purple Thistle Award is an employee recognition program in which an award is presented monthly to one or more employees for their exceptional work or performance that is above or beyond the call of duty.  Any staff or faculty member can nominate any candidate for their exceptional efforts.
