Motivate students as a Health and Physical Education teacher.

Do you want a career that keeps you active and young at heart while making a real difference in the lives of others? If you enjoy building rapport and working with young people, you could earn a degree and become certified to teach Health and Physical Education for grades K-12 with our Teacher Certification program.

You’ll thrive in small classes where each professor knows you by name. They will serve as your mentors as you develop a strong foundation that includes various aspects of personal health and wellness, as well as kinesiology and the full gamut of physical activity and pedagogical skills.

You’ll not only learn theory; but practical applications as well, in our health and fitness computer lab and our state-of-the-art human performance laboratory. Junior field experience in the schools plus a full semester of student teaching will give hands on experience. Our graduates are prepared to pass the Praxis® exam for Health and Physical Education and obtain their Pennsylvania certification to begin their teaching career.

At Edinboro, you’ll spend a full semester working alongside a cooperating teacher. During this time, you will earn 12 credits and have the opportunity to learn more about the day-to-day responsibilities of being a Health and Physical Education teacher. As a student teacher, you will be assigned to a public school in these settings:

Elementary school

Middle school or high school
