At Edinboro, we pride ourselves on our 100-year history of instruction in the visual arts and art education. In addition, our Art Department is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art & Design (NASAD), which sets national standards for excellence in the field.

Our Graphic and Interactive Design program offers extraordinary opportunities for professional growth. Here, you'll acquire a strong foundation in composition and visual organization.

As you become familiar with techniques and software applications, you'll become a problem-solver and find your own voice as a designer. You'll explore topics that range from graphic design history and theory to advanced typography and print and interactive design. Along the way, you'll become skilled at web design, motion graphics, corporate identity, publication design and packaging design.

You'll graduate ready to put your skills to work in a variety of industries.

There is no portfolio review prior to admission. Just bring your passion for the arts and a desire to work hard in a multidisciplinary, highly supportive environment.

The Art Department at Edinboro is one of the largest and acclaimed in the nation.

Here you will acquire a strong foundation in composition and visual organization. In addition, you will learn and grow as you:

  • Take advantage of our travel abroad opportunities. Join faculty members on a two or three week adventure to explore art and design in major European cities. Recent opportunities include art and design studios in London, Paris, Amsterdam, Rome and Athens.
  • Participate in a valuable Design Practicum course that allows you to interact with clients and add real-world projects to your professional portfolio. Our practicum gives students the opportunity to work collaboratively on a team of student designers to solve real world design problems for a variety of clients. Our "BeeHive" (PennWest Edinboro Center for Branding and Strategic Communications) is an on-campus professional design studio, part of the Northwestern Pennsylvania Innovation Network, a consortium among universities in our region.

  • Network with nationally known designers who visit campus to hold workshops, deliver lectures, review portfolios and judge senior design exhibitions.
  • Join the design team for Chimera, PennWest Edinboro's Journal of Art and Literature, which has won more than 25 regional, national and international awards for excellence in design.
  • Enter regional, national and international juried competitions such as the National Student Show, the UCDA National Student Competition, Starpack International Packaging Competition, the American Advertising Awards, Society of Publication Designers student competition and the American Institute for Graphics Arts (AIGA) national and regional design competitions.
