Do you want a career that keeps you active and young at heart while making a real difference in the lives of others? Do you enjoy building rapport and working with young people? Then become a health and physical education teacher for grades K-12 with our Teacher Certification program.
You'll thrive in small classes where each professor knows you by name. They will serve
as your mentors as you develop a strong foundation that includes various aspects of
personal health and wellness, as well as kinesiology and the full gamut of physical
activity and pedagogical skills.
You'll not only learn theory, but practical applications as well, in our health and fitness computer lab and our state-of-the-art human performance laboratory.
Junior field experience in the schools plus a full semester of student teaching will give you the hands-on experience you need.
Before you graduate, you'll be well-prepared to pass the Praxis® exam for Health and
Physical Education and obtain your Pennsylvania certification to begin teaching.
At Edinboro, a semester-long student teaching experience will give you an edge.
As you work alongside a cooperating teacher, you will earn 12 credits and have the opportunity to learn more about the day-to-day responsibilities of being a Health and Physical Education teacher.
For your student teaching experience, you will be assigned to a public school in an
elementary, middle or high school setting.
When you graduate, you'll become part of the Edinboro legacy, carrying on the tradition of educating the next generation of students as teachers and coaches.
Right now, our alumni are working in elementary, middle and high school classrooms, and as coaches for school athletic teams. Some have gone on to earn advanced degrees, including Principal Certifications and Ph.D.s.
