Early Childhood and Reading
Are you an experienced vocalist or enjoy playing a particular instrument? Then you should share your talents as you participate in one of the many musical ensembles, choirs and bands at PennWest Edinboro.
Our Early Childhood and Reading Department offers many exciting musical opportunities for students. Regardless of your major, you can help promote the art of music in the cultural, artistic and intellectual life of the University and its surrounding communities through our talented ensembles.
The University Singers is the 50-voice concert choir of PennWest Edinboro. Membership
is open to all students and is eligible for one academic credit per semester. The
repertoire of University Singers is wide-ranging and eclectic, spanning from the 16th
century to the present, and representing the mainstream of the choral repertoire.
Student opportunities in the ensemble include section leaders, solo or instrumental
collaborations, social media advocates, and student conductors. The University Singers
maintain an active performance schedule, both on and off campus, formal and informal.

The PennWest Edinboro Pipe Band is a student- and community-based organization committed to the promotion and development of the Scottish arts. The ensemble is open to both students and interested persons in the campus and surrounding communities. Bagpipe lessons are available for credit to students, staff, and faculty, as well as through the Community Music School.
The PennWest Edinboro Pipe Band was formed in 1992. Mr. Bruce Best (then-piping instructor) and Dr. Tim Cordell (then-marching band director) were instrumental in its formation. A few enthusiastic students made up this first group and began a tradition that remains to this day. For more information, contact Pipe Band Director, Mr. Sean Patrick Regan, at TheBagpiper@pennwest.edu.
