With a highly experienced faculty engaged in ongoing research, scholarship and service, the Department produces highly qualified graduates of diverse backgrounds who possess foundational understandings of early childhood and American education. They enter the classroom with the ability to implement appropriate instructional strategies to facilitate learning, and are able to recognize and understand the professional, social and ethical responsibilities associated with early childhood education.

Graduate
DescriptionThis 18-credit graduate certificate in arts infusion has been designed to meet the needs of pre-service and in-service educators, artists who desire to work in school settings, and administrators as they strive to enliven content with feeling through the arts. Advocates of the whole child agree that strong arts programs result in strong schools. This certificate will immerse the participants in all of the major art forms: music, dance, drama, visual arts and media arts. Participants will design instruction using current curricula and state and national standards, both in content areas and in the arts.

DescriptionEdinboro University’s graduate degree in Early Childhood Education will prepare practicing and pre-service teachers to work with children from birth through grade 3 by aligning their work to best practices and research. The master's degree is offered online with a one-week summer residency on campus. Students in the Early Childhood Master’s program may also pursue Early Childhood certification* (as an add-on or initial certification).
*This certification may not be recognized by any other state.

DescriptionThe BSED in Early Childhood & Deaf Education would lead to Birth - Grade 4 Early Childhood Teacher Certification and Birth - Grade 12 Deaf Education (Hearing Impaired) Teacher Certification in PA. This educational degree would train teachers to work with both early childhood children and deaf and hard of hearing students in a variety of school settings including resources rooms, itinerant programs, early intervention, and schools for the deaf. The specialized degrees prepares teacher of the deaf to support learning needs of a range of students with mid/moderate hearing loss to profound and severe loss, regardless of communication mode. Amplification and language needs are great within the hard of hearing/deaf population. This program provides pre-service teacher of the deaf with course work in audiology, speech and hearing communication disorders, American Sign Language, education pedagogy, content areas and special education. Field experience will provide pre-service teachers with experiences in all setting to meet the needs of children with hearing loss.

DescriptionThe Dyslexia Intervention minor provides students with critical information related to dyslexia and dyslexia intervention. Topics addressed include foundational language and literacy concepts, the identification of students with dyslexic characteristics, principles of structured language teaching, and research-based intervention techniques. The minor can be coordinated with virtually any academic discipline.
