The School of Education has one of the top teacher preparation programs in the Commonwealth. Accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education, our bachelor’s and master’s degree programs have been recognized by Online Colleges Database and OnlineU. US News and World Reports has recognized our online graduate programs as among the best in the country. In addition to NCATE accreditation, our graduate-level School Psychology program is approved by the National Association of School Psychologists. Our Counseling programs, including our newest program in Art Therapy, are accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling & Related Educational Programs.

The School of Education is fully engaged in the community, providing students with multiple opportunities for practical, hands-on experiences in area schools, pre-schools, recreational facilities and with local and regional sports teams. Our graduates, from classroom teachers, principals and superintendents, to licensed counselors and athletic trainers, have gone on to rewarding careers within Pennsylvania and in many other states.

          The Process

The process of becoming a certified educator in Pennsylvania is demanding, challenging, and rewarding. Students must get clearances through the Pennsylvania Department of Education, obtain candidacy through Edinboro University, pass required state exams and meet the program’s expectations and criteria, including Student Teaching. See our other pages linked from the menu on the left and also below for more information on the process of becoming a certified Pennsylvania educator.
