Scholarships

Scholarships are funds awarded to students based on academic performance or other criteria. The best part? Scholarships do not need to be repaid! PennWest Edinboro offers a number of academic, athletic and other internal scholarships, and students can also seek external scholarships from other organizations.

PennWest Edinboro Scholarships

PennWest Edinboro offers its students a wide variety of permanently endowed scholarships. Each scholarship has its own selection criteria and award amounts, and availability can vary from year to year. Application/nomination requirements also vary, but all students are encouraged to first apply for financial aid by completing the FAFSA

Additionally, Edinboro automatically considers students for the following scholarships within about two weeks of their admission (no additional application is required):

PennWest Premier Scholarship Award

Entering freshman scholarship from $2,000 to $4,000 and renewable for up to four years, a value of $8,000 to $16,000 over four years.

Entering transfer scholarship from $1,500 to $2,000 with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.

University Housing Scholarship

For non-PA residents (freshmen, international, and transfer students), with a minimum high school or transfer cumulative GPA of 3.0, $3,000 per year, renewable for up to two consecutive years so long as the student remains full-time, is in good academic standing and lives in a University-owned residence hall. First consideration will be given to students who apply early, before the March 1 scholarship priority consideration deadline.

Honors College Award Scholarship

This is a one-time $1,000 scholarship that will be offered to Fall 2023 incoming freshmen who are admitted to the Honors College.  In addition, the student has to accept their seat and enroll in the Honors College as a freshman in order to receive this scholarship.  Students will receive the award split by $500 each semester - Fall 2023 and Spring 2024.  New entering freshmen admitted to the Honors College also may apply for additional Honors College renewable merit and one-time housing scholarships at edinboro.edu/honors. These awards would be on top of the $1,000 one-time offers.

Board of Governor’s Scholarships

This scholarship is awarded to incoming freshmen beginning Fall 2023 to enhance diversity on Edinboro’s campus. There are a limited number of scholarships available from half, up to full tuition, and are renewable for up to eight consecutive semesters for new freshmen enrolled full-time and who maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA.   The Office of Admissions identifies eligible admitted full-time freshmen who are also Pennsylvania residents and have a minimum 3.5 high school cumulative GPA. In most cases this award will replace all other previously awarded Edinboro merit scholarships and grants.

External Scholarships

The Financial Aid Office is periodically notified of external scholarship opportunities. Students are notified through PennWest's email system, outlining the criteria and method of application. Opportunities are also listed on our website by clicking the link above.
