Student Health Services
The mission of the Student Health Services is to provide the highest quality episodic patient care, to support and enhance education and increase retention by modifying or removing health-related barriers to learning and by promoting optimal wellness. Health is viewed as more than the absence of illness; it is a positive state of full functioning in relation to one’s capacities. The SHS subscribes to the University’s Mission to focus on individual attention for student success, commitment to diversity and responsiveness to the evolving needs of the broader community.
Student Health Services provides care that is similar to a family practice setting, giving special attention to the needs of college students. Services include, but are not limited to, the following. (Additional details are included below under Services.)
Fall and Spring Semesters
Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. – 10 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday, 3 p.m. – 10 p.m.
The Student Health Services staff believe the foundation of good medical care is the relationship between the medical provider and the patient. In order to provide the time and attention that each student deserves, it is recommended that you make an appointment. Appointments are made by calling 814-732-2743 or visiting the reception desk at the Ghering Health and Wellness Center during office hours. Immediate problems are attended to on a walk-in basis.
Students should always bring their student identification card and their insurance card every time they visit the Student Health Services.
A $15 No-Show Fee will be charged to your account if you do not cancel or reschedule prior to your appointment time or if you arrive 5 or more minutes late.
Confidentiality of all services provided at the Student Health Services are strictly maintained. Therefore, the Health Center cannot release any information to anyone without the expressed written consent of the person to whom the information belongs. This regulation includes the distribution of information to parents, guardians, siblings, spouses, friends, etc.
All Health Center personnel, including student secretaries, complete confidentiality training. This policy ensures the protection of all confidential information.
Please complete, sign and have witnessed the authorization for release of protected health information to acquire a copy of medical record information.
