Edinboro University receives national career development distinction

EDINBORO, Pa. – Edinboro University is officially ranked among the top schools in Pennsylvania and the entire U.S. for providing outstanding career-development services to students and alumni.

This month, Colleges of Distinction listed Edinboro’s Center for Career Development and Experiential Learning among the Career Development Colleges of Distinction of 2020-2021 for offering integrated career exploration, accessible programs and training and a career-centered staff.

“This distinction shows that Edinboro University has invested in a robust, comprehensive system to provide a level of career education and experiential learning support that ranks among the best colleges and universities in the country,” said Monica Clem, executive director of Edinboro’s Center for Career Development and Experiential Learning.

Schools awarded the Career Development distinction have shown that they are well equipped to help their students graduate with confidence. The badge recognizes schools with comprehensive 4-year plans, advising and more.

Edinboro offers such resources as the TartanEdge suite, where students can locate career coaching and assessment, resume and professional writing assistance, experiential learning opportunities, seminars and workshops and mock interviews.

Edinboro’s team has expanded and grown to meet student needs by dedicating a career coach for each of the four colleges/schools to provide personalized support. Career personnel meet with hundreds of students, employers and recent alumni each year.

More than 20,000 students, alumni, families, faculty and staff have utilized TartanEdge since the site’s launch in 2018.

Students who work with the career center during their first year are more likely to persist to their second year. In fact, 88% of students who met with a career coach in 2019-2020 said that the staff exceeded their expectations – according to surveys.

Despite the transition to online-only course delivery in March due to COVID-19, Edinboro’s career center has continued to provide virtual support to students and alumni throughout the spring and summer.

“The Career Development recognition goes beyond a job board and resume writing,” said Tyson Schritter, Chief Operating Officer at Colleges of Distinction. “Edinboro has shown inventiveness in connecting with students throughout their academic careers and beyond.”

Colleges of Distinction recognized Edinboro’s abilities to provide career and trait assessments to help students connect their visual personality with career paths. Through Traitify, Edinboro’s career team uses scientifically backed data assessment to provide insight and options for a student’s path to careers.

Schools in Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education featured on this list include Bloomsburg University, California University of Pennsylvania, Millersville University, Shippensburg University and Slippery Rock University.

Now in its 20th year, Colleges of Distinction is committed to honoring schools throughout the U.S. for true excellence in higher education. The member schools within the Colleges of Distinction consortium distinguish themselves through their dedicated focus on the undergraduate experience.
