Edinboro University is ranked among the best colleges and universities in the country for veterans of the U.S. Military, according to an independent military news organization.
Additionally, Edinboro University ranked among 30 higher-education institutions that were selected for the inaugural Pennsylvania National Guard Associations Guard Friendly School designation.
For the third consecutive year, Military Times recognized Edinboro University among the nationwide Best for Vets: Top Colleges 2020. Military Times rated Edinboro highly for student retention, services for U.S. veterans and national accreditation for academic programs.
“We are proud to serve the men and women of the United States Armed Forces,” said Andrew Matt, coordinator of Edinboro’s Veterans Success Center. “Their service to our country is irreplaceable, so we feel it is our duty to match their commitment with a valuable post-secondary education.”
As of fall 2019, 101 veterans and family members attend Edinboro University using Veterans Affairs (VA) education benefits earned through service to our nation.
Each institution selected for the Best for Vets list completed a survey of 150 questions relating to institutional operations and services for current and former service members and their families. Colleges and universities were then assessed based on five principles: university culture, student support, academic policies, academic outcomes and cost and financial aid.
Institutions were also recognized for offering a stand-alone area or building where military-connected students can meet, socialize, study and receive academic assistance.
Edinboro University’s Veterans Success Center serves as a one-stop resource for student-veterans and military-connected families. The Veterans Success Center provides study space and computers, as well as access to campus and off-campus resources and VA education benefit programs.
Among more than 480 schools eligible to receive the Pennsylvania Educational Assistance Program (EAP) funds to serve members of the Pennsylvania National Guard, Edinboro was one of the Top 30 programs to receive the coveted National Guard Friendly School designation.
The Guard Friendly designation was created by the PA National Guard Association to recognize schools for their work with PA National Guard Members. The distinction further serves to help National Guard Members best understand where they can get the best benefit for their EAP dollars.
Earlier this year, Edinboro University was awarded its 10th consecutive Military Friendly honor for providing veterans and their families a first-rate post-secondary education.
Edinboro University earned silver status in the annual Military Friendly Schools list for 2019-2020 after earning top measurements in engaging prospective military students, educating military students and providing the student with meaningful employment.
Edinboro was recognized for the achievements of the Veterans Success Center and the campus ROTC cadre. Currently, there are 180 military-related students at Edinboro, including veterans, spouses and dependents – many of whom use VA education benefits.
