Barbara C. Chaffee has been a member of the Edinboro University Council of Trustees since 2012 and vice chair since July 2015.
She attended Kent State University and is the CEO of the Tom Ridge Environmental Center Foundation. She is the former President and CEO of the Erie Regional Chamber and Growth Partnership. Ms. Chaffee has extensive experience in tourism and economic development, having previously served as the Executive Director of Tourism and Film and Deputy Secretary within the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development under Gov. Tom Ridge. She also was a Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director of Public Liaison for the Office of Homeland Security in the George W. Bush administration.
Prior to assuming leadership of the Erie Regional Chamber and Growth Partnership, Ms. Chaffee was a founding principal and president of Public Intelligence, a strategic communications, marketing and positioning company. She was also a partner in Ripple Effects Interactive. In addition, she has 29 years’ experience in the hospitality industry, having risen from various line employee positions in Holiday Inn hotels and restaurants to President of Oakdale Management Corp., a hotel and restaurant management company that was located in Erie, Pennsylvania.
Ms. Chaffee was honored as a Distinguished Pennsylvanian by Gannon University in 2003, and Travel Agent Magazine named her among the Most Powerful Women in Travel in 1999 and 2001. Between 1998 and 2002, she won 46 creative awards for interactive marketing and websites.
