Ronald A. Steele has been a member of the Edinboro University Council of Trustees since 2011.
Mr. Steele earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of Pittsburgh. He has led Erie County, Pennsylvania’s designated community action agency as the Chief Executive Officer of the Greater Erie Community Action Committee (GECAC) since 2004. His previous experience includes 24 years of service to Erie County as a juvenile probation officer and the county’s first minority Public Defender detective.
Mr. Steele serves on the Erie Regional Chamber & Growth Partnership Board of Directors, Hamot Health Foundation Board of Corporators, Mercyhurst College President’s Associates, Community Action Agency of Pennsylvania Board of Directors, Erie Community Foundation Advisory Board, the Robert Benjamin Wiley Community Charter School Board, Erie Conference on African American Affairs, Sarah A. Reed Children’s Center Board of Directors, and the Northwest Pennsylvania Workforce Investment Board.
He was the recipient of YMCA of the Greater Erie Service Award in 1997, Erie County Bar Association Liberty Bell Award in 2000, YMCA Black Achiever honors in 2001, and a community service award from the Gem City Lodge #328, Ozeil Temple #317 ~ I.B.P.O. Elks of the World in 2006. In 2007, he received the Edinboro University’s Martin Luther King Award and the Boys & Girls Club of Erie Legends Award.
He is a lifelong resident of Erie and is married to Barbara Steele.
