Congratulations to Zahedur Arman who received the second prize for the poster presentation titled "A Cluster Criticism of the 2016 Presidential Primary Debates: How Candidates Framed Their Speeches" in the 2016 Celebration of Scholarship at Edinboro University.
Dr. Andrew R. Smith and graduate student Zahedur Arman presented papers at the Annual Pennsylvania Communication Association Conference at Pitt-Johnstown in September 2016. Zahed's paper was entitled "Agonistic Discourse[s] of Rohingya insurgency in Myanmar: An Analysis for Conflict Transformation." Dr. Smith's paper was part of a plenary session, and was entitled "Im-passible Peace: Enmity and the Matrix-figure of Intractability." Dr. Smith received the Donald Ecroyd Research and Scholarship Award Winner at the conference.
In April 2016, students, faculty and alumni traveled to the 107th Annual Eastern Communication Association Conference in Baltimore, Maryland to present their research. Zahedur Arman presented a paper titled “Television Talk Shows in Bangladesh: Public Sphere Challenges.” Matthew Bresnahan presented the paper “Social Stigma and Self-advocacy of Persons with Physical Disabilities among Peers in Post-Secondary Education.” Alumna Kristin Brockett and Dr. Melissa Gibson presented their research “[R]evolution in Nonprofit Online Fundraising: Mimetic Theory, Celebrity Influence and the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.”
