English and Philosophy Department
Dr. Mary Paniccia Carden
Student writers of the English and Philosophy Department collaborate annually with student artists from the Art Department in the production and publication of the literary/arts journal Chimera. Its contents include poetry, fiction and visual arts products written and created by students from all parts of the campus. The magazine’s annual debut is celebrated in a gathering that has come to be called the “Chimera Soirée.” In the past several years, the magazine has been awarded several national and local prizes for its content and design.
Janua Sophia is published once yearly and is dedicated to recognizing exemplary philosophical work at the undergraduate level. Submissions should be the original work of the author and may address any topic in Western or Eastern philosophy. Special consideration is given to essays that deal with Eastern thought and the relationship between Eastern and Western thought.
