The Biology & Health Services Department also offers a Masters of Science Degree in Biology for those wishing to continue their education. Our Graduate Faculty offer a wide variety of experiences and expertise.
A student persuing a M.S. Biology degree will most likely choose to develop a Plan of Study involving the development and completion of a Thesis Project. This is a research project designed by the student with very involved instruction from a chosen Thesis Advisor. It is typically done for three (3) or six (6) credits over a course of semesters. Designing and completing a thesis is very highly recommended, especially if the student is considering the pursuit of a terminal degree (i.e. a Ph.D.) after earning their Masters Degree.
However, another alternative is available. Our department offers a Non-Thesis Plan of Study for those students that desire a Masters Degree but are unable to invest the time and resources required by the intense rigors of the Thesis tract. These students design and complete an Independent Study with the aid of an Independent Study Advisor.
