 Student Mentoring Program

The goal of the mentoring program is to improve student success and preparation for a professional career in business through direct interaction and mentorship by a business practitioner and leader. Students will gain knowledge of workplace expectations, develop professional networking skills, and sharpen their understanding of career opportunities and workplace expectations.

Mentors and students are expected to maintain monthly contact throughout the mentoring process and will be provided with monthly discussion topics to assist in developing the relationship. It is expected and encouraged that these suggested topics will be just the beginning of the conversation and that regular meetings between the mentor and student will allow for dialogue on everything from time management to career choice.

For Students:

This is an opportunity to work one-on-one with a business professional in your area of interest. You will be able to discuss workplace expectations and career advancement opportunities, obtain feedback on your resume directly from a business professional, network with other professionals in your target career area, perform job shadowing, and develop a professional relationship with a business practitioner.

This opportunity is available to any Junior or Senior in the BS Business Administration or BS Economics program at Edinboro University, provided that other eligibility requirements have been met. Participation in this program also requires a time commitment on your part and only students that are willing to invest time into this relationship-building program should apply.

Details regarding eligibility requirements, your roles and responsibilities, the application process, and related information may be found on the Student Information page.

For Mentors:

The Student Mentoring Program provides you with the opportunity to share your expertise and professional  experiences with students looking to create meaningful networks and gain understanding of their intended profession prior to entering the job market.

We are looking for business professionals who currently work in industry, social service organizations, or the public sector who wish to provide mentoring and guidance to advanced college students just preparing to start their business careers. The mentoring process also involves a time commitment on your part and a willingness to maintain communication, either in person or electronically, with your assigned student. It is an exciting chance to make a difference in a student's life.

Details regarding your roles and responsibilities, the application process, and related information may be found on the Mentor Information page.

Mentoring Program Matching Process

To be fully considered for participation in the program for the next academic year (September - May), students and mentors must submit an online application by May 31. The Mentor-Student matching process will be conducted each summer and matches will be announced in August of each year.

A Mentor-Student Introduction event will be scheduled each September to allow the mentors and students to meet each other, review the student's goals for the mentoring program, and establish a communication strategy. Links to the application forms are provided here, but prospective mentor and student participants are strongly encouraged to visit the Student Information and Mentoring pages to be sure that they understand the necessary responsibilities and time commitments needed for a successful experience.
