ALUMNI PRE-HEALING ARTS BOOK STIPEND

A book stipend is awarded annually to two outstanding students (a junior and a senior) with QPA's of 3.3 or higher and who are majoring in the pre-healing arts curriculum.

KEVIN F. "ROCKY" BURKHARDT SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship provides an award to an Edinboro University biology major who has a minimum 3.5 cumulative QPA. The recipient may receive this scholarship for two consecutive years if selected initially as a junior and all other selection criteria are met.

HOWARD FALLS RESEARCH AND EDUCATION ENDOWNMENT FUND

Dennis Howard received his undergraduate degree in science from Pennsylvania State University in 1967; a master’s degree in education, physical science from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania in 1974; and an MBA, executive management from Case Western University in 1984. Dianne Howard graduated from Edinboro University in 1973 with a B.S. in Library Science and a MLS from Clarion University.  The endowment is utilized to support and enhance a broad spectrum of research and educational projects connecting the Howard Falls property with Edinboro University’s many science programs, including but not limited to Geology, Chemistry, Earth Sciences, Environmental Studies, Geography, Natural Science, Wildlife, Industrial Biochemistry, Environmental Science/Biology, and Environmental Science/Geology.

DR. FLORIAN FLOREK MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Dr. Florian Florek practiced general medicine in Edinboro for many years and was well-respected for his community involvement and his caring and cheerful personality.  This scholarship was created by his wife to honor Dr. Florek and to encourage the same commitment and enthusiasm to education in others that Dr. Florek showed in his life.  The recipient must be an entering full-time freshman or upperclass student who is in the Honors program and pursuing a bachelor's degree in Biology and Health Services (Biology; Biology/Pre-Medical; Nutrition; Medical Technology; or Nuclear Medicine Technology).   This scholarship is renewable through the completion of 120 credits provided the student maintains an overall QPA of 3.30 or better.  Financial need is a factor.  

HARRINGTON-HOFFMAN SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is awarded to a student from Pennsylvania, New York or Ohio, whose major is pre-medicine or chemistry, whose cumulative QPA is 3.3 or greater, and who will be enrolled full-time during each term of the award. This scholarship is renewable for up to three years providing these criteria is met.

DORA JEAN HAWKINS NURSING SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship was established by Dora Jean Hawkins's husband, Leonard E. Hawkins, and sons Dr. Richard E. Arnold and Leonard E. Hawkins II to aid deserving students at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania who are pursing a nursing degree. The student must be a sophomore, pursuing a degree in Nursing, with a minimum 3.0 GPA.  The purpose of the fund is to provide a scholarship based upon financial need, academic ability, demonstrated leadership, and special talents.  Preference in awarding the scholarship may be given to students who help achieve and sustain the diversity of the student body, particularly, non-traditional, African American students.  The Office of Student Financial Support and Services, in collaboration with the Nursing Department, will select the most qualified recipient.  Financial aid may be a factor.  In the event of two or more qualified applicants, the scholarship will be awarded to the student with the greatest financial need.  The student must have completed a U.S. Department of Education Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file prior to receiving this scholarship.

DR. GARY MEANS SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is awarded to a freshman who is an active varsity sports participant. The student must meet all NCAA eligibility requirements and must be enrolled in one of the following majors: pre-medicine, pre-dentistry, pre-pharmacy or pre-veterinary medicine.

PHILLIPS PRE-HEALING ARTS SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship offers awards annually to an entering freshman who has an earned SAT score of 1000 or greater, who graduated in the upper half of his/her high school class, and whose major is one of the pre-healing arts (pre-dental, pre-veterinary, or pre-medicine). The recipient must also be a resident of Venango, Crawford, Warren, Clarion or Mercer county (Pennsylvania). Financial need may be a factor. This scholarship has an annual value equivalent to the cost of tuition, fees, room and board plus a book/supply stipend less the value of fixed financial aid resources (Pell Grant, PHEAA Grant, internal/external scholarships). In addition, this scholarship is renewable for up to a total of four years as long as the recipient continues to meet the established criteria, completes a minimum of 24 credit hours of study each academic year, and maintains a cumulative QPA of 3.3 or greater.

PRE-HEALING ARTS ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is offered to a freshman whose major is one of the pre-healing arts, earned 1000 or greater SAT score, and who graduated in the top 1/5 of his/her high school class. This award will be renewed for a maximum of four years as long as the recipient maintains a 3.5 or greater QPA and remains enrolled full-time in a pre-healing arts curriculum. Financial need is not a factor.

DR. NANCY S. RUNG SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is awarded to a female studying one of the pre-professional health programs, Nursing (or occupational/or physical therapy program).  The preference of selection:  incoming freshman, then sophomore, junior, or senior.  The scholarship is renewable for 4 years with a 3.0 cumulative QPA and the recommendation from the department chairperson.  Financial need is to be used only as a determining factor if there are multiple finalists.

DR. ERIC WISER HONORS SCHOLARSHIP FOR BIOLOGY OR PRE-MED

Eric chose Edinboro University for his undergraduate work because it was far from his home town and he wanted to go somewhere in-state because the tuition would be affordable.  Eric was impressed by the admissions information that he received from Edinboro because it was very to the point on the requirements for pre-med students. The student must be an entering freshman that graduated from high school in the top 20 percent of his/her class and meets all of the criteria required to participate in the Edinboro University Honors Program and the Edinboro University Pre-Medical Program. 

PAUL E. ZARENKO SCHOLARSHIP

This award was developed by Mr. Paul Zarenko who taught various Biology and Science Education courses in the Biology Department for 21 years.  The recipient of this scholarship must be an incoming freshman majoring in biology who is a resident of Pennsylvania and graduated from high school with a minimum cumulative QPA of 3.5 in a college preparatory curriculum (preference should be given to students who graduate from Northwestern or General McLane High School in the top 20 percent of his/her class and have a minimum of 900 SAT). The scholarship is renewable through the completion of 128 credits. Financial need may be a factor.
