Political Science & Criminal Justice Scholarships

 

JEREMY ATKIN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship was established as a memorial to Jeremy Atkin, by his parents, MR. and Mrs. Dennis W. Atkin, in order to assist other Edinboro students with the pursuit of higher education.  This annual award will be made to a Criminal Justice major, with preference to a member of the Edinboro University Chapter of Phi Kappa Psi.  The student must be enrolled full-time (12 or more credits per semester) and have a minimum QPA of 2.5.  Financial need may be a factor.

TROOPER MATTHEW R. BOND MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is was established by fellow state troopers, law enforcement officers, criminal justice professionals, fraternity brothers, alumni and friends of Trooper Matthew R. Bond, not only to honor his memory, but also to encourage the same level of dedication, commitment and bravery in a student of Criminal Justice as was displayed by Trooper Bond in his career and life.  The recipient must be an incoming freshman or presently enrolled in the Criminal Justice Program.  The student must have a 3.0 GPA or minimum SAT score of 1000 (or equivalent ACT score).  First preference shall be given to dependants of active or retired Pennsylvania State Police officers.  Second preference shall be given to dependants of active or retired police officers.  Financial aid may be a factor.  The Criminal Justice Department will provide referrals to the Scholarship Committee.

RYAN E. CAPPELLETTY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship was established as a memorial to Ryan E. Cappelletty, who was killed in the line of duty as a police officer.  His wife, Rachel, along with friends and family, hope to encourage the same commitment to education and enthusiasm for law enforcement that Ryan demonstrated during his life.  The student must be an entering freshman majoring in Criminal Justice, with preference given to a McDowell High School graduate, with a minimum QPA of 2.0.  The student must have exceptional character as demonstrated by volunteerism, work experience, and/or participation in community activities.  Financial need may be a factor. 

DR. HERBERT V. FERSTER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

The recipient of this scholarship must be a freshman criminal justice major participating in an intercollegiate sport with SAT scores of 1000, an ACT composite of 22, or is in the top 25% of their high school graduating class.  Financial need may be a factor.

LUTHER V. HENDRICKS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Luther V. Hendricks joined the Edinboro faculty in 1946-47 and had risen to the position of dean of the school of behavioral and social sciences before his death in 1970.  Dr. Richard J. Gromen, Mr. Gregory D. Lessig, Mr. Harvey L. Heath, and the late Mr. Carl Wozniak, all faculty emeritus, originally established the Luther V. Hendricks Memorial Fund Committee in 1972 to "promote and foster excellence in social studies education at Edinboro State College," as a result of a generous monetary gift by Mrs. Hendricks and members of the Hendricks family.  The scholarship will be awarded to eligible students who are in their junior or senior year and are pursuing undergraduate degrees in the following academic disciplines: history/anthropology, political science/criminal justice, sociology, and economics.  The award will rotate each year to the subsequent academic area.  The recipient must be enrolled full-time, earned a minimum of 60 credits, and have a minimum QPA of 3.0.  The scholarship can only be awarded during the fall and/or spring semesters and is not transferable.  Financial aid may be a factor. 

KEVIN J JESTEADT MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Kevin Jesteadt was a senior airman in the Air Force National Guard-171st Air Refueling Wing and was pursuing dual degrees as a full-time student at Edinboro University, majoring in chemistry/forensic science and secondary education.  This scholarship was established in his honor by his mother, Cathy, and friends and family, to encourage the same commitment to education, and enthusiasm and zest for living that Kevin demonstrated during his short life.   The recipient of this award must be an entering freshman, with preference given to a Slippery Rock High School graduate, with a minimum QPA of 3.0.  The student must be a Criminal Justice major or secondary education major. For the purpose of this award, Criminal Justice major is to include Forensic Chemistry, Forensic Accounting and Political Science.  The student must have exceptional character as demonstrated by volunteerism, work experience, and/or participation in community activities.  Financial need is a factor.

JULIET LIEBER INTERNATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP

The recipient of this award must be an international student enrolled full-time at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania.  The student must be a Political Science major or be involved in the study of International Relations and have a minimum QPA of 3.0.  A selection committee appointed by the Department Chair of Political Science will conduct the scholarship award process.

KEVIN MALONEY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship was established by friends and family of Kevin Maloney, a well-known athlete and student at Cathedral Prep High School who was interested in Political Science and Public Service.  It is awarded annually to an Edinboro University senior with a QPA of 3.3 or higher who has financial need and is a political science or pre-law major.

ALUMNI PRE-LAW SCHOLARSHIP

This award is presented to an upperclass student who has declared his/her intention of attending law school upon completion of studies at Edinboro University. This scholarship is renewable for one year providing the recipient maintains a 3.25 or greater QPA.

KURT ALAN SANDERS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship was developed in memory of Kurt Alan Sanders by his mother, Ms. Susan Sanders, and friends and relatives.  The scholarship was also established to encourage the same commitment to education community involvement that Kurt demonstrated during his life.  This annual award will be made to an entering freshman, with preference given to a General McLane High School graduate, with a minimum QPA of 3.0.  The student must be a Criminal Justice major; for the purpose of this award, Criminal Justice major is to include Forensic Chemistry, Forensic Accounting and Political Science.  The student must have exceptional character as demonstrated by volunteerism, work experience, and/or participation in community activities.  Financial need is a factor. 

THEO SABIN AND LUDWIG G. MEYER PUBLIC SERVICE SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is awarded to a student majoring in political science. The recipient must be enrolled full-time with a minimum of 64 earned credits and a minimum cumulative QPA of 3.0. The recipient must demonstrate financial need.

ANTHONY AND CATHY ZUMPETTA SCHOLARSHIP

The recipient of this scholarship must be an incoming freshman majoring in history, sociology, criminal justice, or social work and must remain in one of these fields.  The student should have an 1100 combined SAT (or ACT equivalent) and have graduated in the top 1/5 of their high school graduating class.  Non-traditional first semester freshman will be eligible.  The successful candidate must be full-time and maintain a cumulative 3.0 QPA.  Financial need is a factor.  The funds for this scholarship were developed by Dr. and Mrs. Anthony Zumpetta.
