Dr. Kahan Sablo
Dr. Kahan Sablo, Vice President for Student Affairs, was born in the Bronx, NY. He relocated to Pennsylvania in 1998 to assume an administrative post as Edinboro University's first Associate Vice President for Student Life. This position was later re-titled Dean of Student Life, with administrative supervision over Counseling and Psychological Services, Student Health Services, Student Judicial Affairs, Multicultural Programs, Residence Life and Housing, and Student Activities. Also, in addition to his Dean responsibilities, in April of 2009, he was given a dual appointment as the Interim Vice President for Student Affairs. In this role he provided administrative supervision to Career Services, Adult Student Services, the Office for Students with Disabilities, ROTC, Athletics, and serves as the advisor to the Student Government Association. In May, 2011, Dr. Sablo was permanently promoted to the position of Vice President for Student Affairs.
Dr. Sablo was initially educated at the State University of New York, College at Oswego. It is there that he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Justice and a Master of Science degree in Counseling and Psychological Services. Dr. Sablo also earned a Doctor of Education degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where his dissertation research focused on the role that college gospel choirs play in the retention of African American students at predominately White universities.
Dr. Sablo advises multiple student organizations on campus. In the community, he is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., and is a volunteer paramedic with the Edinboro Volunteer Fire Department. Dr. Sablo is also the Minister of Music (six choirs) at the St. James AME Church in Erie, PA, where he also serves as a class leader and member of the Board of Stewards.
Although he has no children of his own, Dr. Sablo has 14 godchildren and is proud to have played a very significant role in the raising of his baby sister, Ms. Omega permanently.
