Edinboro University’s Online Campus is hosted on the Desire2Learn Learning Management System. Desire2Learn (D2L) is designed to create a rich online learning environment for students. The Desire2Learn system allows faculty to post lectures, homework assignments, exams, conduct online discussions, and more. Desire2Learn is accessible to anyone with regular access to a PC or Mac and a reliable Internet connection.

 

Computer and Technical Requirements for D2L

In order to attend classes online, you will need a high speed Internet connection and modern computer. Our online courses are delivered over a system called Desire2Learn. Please run their system check on your computer. 

Minimum System Requirements for Desire2Learn

In order to make the most of your online learning experience, there are several technical requirements you will need to fulfill. Refer to the guidelines below to help ensure your online success:

Microsoft Windows

  • Windows 7 or 8
  • 2GB RAM
  • High speed Internet connection (DSL, Cable)
  • Working soundcard and speakers/headphones
  • One of the following browsers with Java and cookies enabled: Firefox (recommended), Chrome (supported), Internet Explorer 9 (supported)
  • Current Sun Java Runtime Environment [JRE] (Version 7 or newer recommended)

Apple/Macintosh

  • Mac OS X (Lion 10.7 and above)
  • 2GB RAM
  • High speed internet connection (DSL, Cable)
  • Working soundcard and speakers/headphones
  • One of the following browsers with Java and cookies enabled: Firefox (recommended), Safari 5.1 (supported), Chrome (supported)
  • Current Sun Java Runtime Environment [JRE] (Version 7 or newer recommended)


It is recommended that you have the latest version of Adobe Flash installed, Adobe Reader, QuickTime, and Windows Media Components (for Macintosh users). Some professors may require you to download additional software to complete course work.

Can you use your mobile device to access your courses?

  • iOS, Android, and Blackberry devices can access mobile versions of your online courses.
  • Mobile content is limited. Not all content and tools within your online course will be accessible via your mobile device.
  • Smart phones and tablets do not meet the minimum technical requirements for your online course.

How do you log into Desire2Learn?

  1. Visit the Edinboro Portal – my.edinboro.edu
  2. Enter your username and password.
  3. Select the D2L icon located in the LaunchPad area on the left side of the screen

If you have questions related to logging into my.Edinboro and Online Campus (D2L) please contact our Technology Help Center by phone at 814-732-2111. Student passwords will expire every 180 days and employee passwords will expire every 90 days. Once your password has expired you will not have access to Online Campus (D2L) and will need to reset.

ITV Video Conferencing

Video conferencing is a technology that enables synchronous distance education with real time audio/video. It is also used for administrative meetings and non-credit classes. Edinboro maintains four on-campus video-conferencing facilities as well as the one located at the Erie satellite campus.

Edinboro University, along with several of the other PASSHE schools make ITV courses available to all students who are currently enrolled at one of the 14 PASSHE schools.
