Writing Center

English and Philosophy

The English and Philosophy Department at Edinboro administers the Writing Center, where students from many majors gain invaluable assistance with classwork and department students gain experience working as tutors.

PennWest Edinboro English and Philosophy Department students enjoy state-of-the-art learning facilities, including the Writing Center in Alexander Hall, Room 221. This Fall semester, tutors are available via Zoom meetings as per Covid-19 regulations. Students can sign up for appointments through Starfish under their My Success Network.

The Writing Center is open to all students, faculty, and staff for assistance with writing from a variety of courses. Tutors provide guidance as collaborators in the writing process and possess skill in working with individuals’ needs regarding written communication, especially in developing, revising and editing students’ papers.

English majors are invited to work as writing consultants at the University Writing Center. Acting as writing consultants hones students’ critical and editorial skills and is experience that appeals to prospective employers and graduate programs.

The Center was founded in 1993 by the English and Theatre Arts Department (now the Department of English and Philosophy) as a service to the entire University community. Students are welcome to make appointments or simply stop by for immediate help if someone is available.
