Enhancing health services by creating ease of access and sponsoring health educational
events are just a few of the ways Ghering Health and Wellness Center helps to support
the health of the PennWest Edinboro campus community.
Operations
Provided therapy dog sessions in collaboration with CAPS and Wellness Peer Educators
on campus once a month during the academic year to provide emotional support to our
students. (2017, 2018, 2019)
Received another three-year accreditation award from the Accreditation Association
for Ambulatory Health Care. (2016)
Maintained excellent patient satisfaction survey results, indicating 99 percent of
users would return to the Health Center for services. (2017, 2018, 2019)
Initiated early evening CAPS appointments hours on Monday - Thursday. (2017, 2018,

Established kiosks for Student Health Services appointment check-in through the patient

Health Educational Events
Conducted (Danielle Odell, R.N. from Student Health Services) CPR and first aid classes
for faculty, staff and students. (2017, 2018, 2019)
Hosted the Annual Health Fair at the Student Center. The event is typically attended
by more than 600 faculty, staff, students and community members with upward of 60
vendors. (2017, 2018, 2019)
Provided educational programs on campus to students, such as Sex Double Dare, Sex
Pictionary, Condom Bingo, and Alcohol Jeopardy by the Peer Educators. (2017, 2018,

Collaborated with the Wellness Peer Educators, Student Health and Wellness Advisory
Board (SHWAB) students to host a Safe Spring Break, Collegiate Alcohol Awareness,
and Sexual Health Awareness tables at the Pogue Student Center. (2017, 2018, 2019)
Observed World AIDS Day in conjunction with the Wellness Peer Educators and Campus
Ministry by hosting tables. The program was funded by a grant from the Student Government

Organized the annual "Unmasking the Faces of Domestic Violence March" in October in
collaboration with SafeNet, Safe Journey, Campus Ministry, Crime Victim Services,
SHWAB and the Wellness Peer Educators to recognize victims of domestic violence. (2017,

Continue to partner with the Erie County and Pennsylvania State departments of health

Provided multiple students with food bags from the on-campus food pantry in collaboration

Coordinated blood drives each month on a rotating schedule with the American Red Cross
